This review is from: Primus ClassicTrail Stove (Misc.)
This stove offers massive value. I'm as much of a gearhead as anyone and am always looking to shave grams from my gear and seeking innovative products that make my backpacking experience a bit more safe, comfortable, or enjoyable. This stove is small, but isn't the tiniest. It doesn't boil water as fast as the fastest blowtorch stoves. It's not the most stable or most protected from the wind.

So why should you buy it? Because it is small, works well every single time you use it, because it is durable and extremely reliable, and because it is extremely easy to use and modulate from full blast to the lowest simmer.

Oh, yeah, and it's a fraction of the cost of many other canister stoves.

The details:

* Compatibility - Any commonly available isobutane canister will accept this stove, not just those from Primus. (Exception: Most valved GAZ canisters I've seen don't have a threaded neck, so this stove won't work on those. They seem... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Scouts, February 22, 2007
I did a lot of research on backpacking stoves and purchased one that appears to be identical to this one at REI called the Yellowstone. Many hard core backpackers are obsessed with shaving ounces and this one weights a few ounces more. However, they are sacrificing ease of use and stability. When on a Boy Scout campout, the last thing you want is for a pot to fall off a "pocket rocket" because the stove is unstable. This stove is pretty foolproof and pretty stable. I would recommend it for scout aged campers and for any situation where saving a couple of ounces or use of liquid fuel is not required.

Light weight, good heat adjustment, quick lighting......great little stove for backpacking. Buying the larger fuel cannister is the way to go with this stove as it gives more base weight. This really helped with larger cooking pots. Good buy!
