5.0 out of 5 stars Great little stove, September 16, 2011

This review is from: Primus Classic Trail Stove (Sports)
The Primus Classic Trail Stove is a decent little stove. It is very well built and is not going to let anyone down on the mountain. Used for several multiple day backpacking trips. Seems extremely reliable and features a large base that prevents tips with large or even smaller pots. The one thing I would caution is to check out its weight. It is built really well but that may also mean more grams than you would like in your stove. Also wish it would fit into the the pot and allow the pots to close and fit inside like my other stove. I would recommend this to anyone needing a solid stove. It is not limited to what cookware you can use with this like other stoves so it makes it much more universal!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent little stove, September 20, 2011
This review is from: Primus Classic Trail Stove (Sports)
I've had/used the Primus Classic Trail stove the past 3 years and it has performed flawlessly each and every time. The pot support has been surprisingly effective, even with larger pots, pans, and kettles. On typical trips, the stove is in its stuff sack in a kettle. I don't have the piezo igniter ... use matches instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Stove, Huge Bang for the Buck, May 20, 2011

This review is from: Primus ClassicTrail Stove (Misc.)
This stove offers massive value. I'm as much of a gearhead as anyone and am always looking to shave grams from my gear and seeking innovative products that make my backpacking experience a bit more safe, comfortable, or enjoyable. This stove is small, but isn't the tiniest. It doesn't boil water as fast as the fastest blowtorch stoves. It's not the most stable or most protected from the wind.

So why should you buy it? Because it is small, works well every single time you use it, because it is durable and extremely reliable, and because it is extremely easy to use and modulate from full blast to the lowest simmer.

Oh, yeah, and it's a fraction of the cost of many other canister stoves.

The details:

* Compatibility - Any commonly available isobutane canister will accept this stove, not just those from Primus. (Exception: Most valved GAZ canisters I've seen don't have a threaded neck, so this stove won't work on those. They seem... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Scouts, February 22, 2007
I did a lot of research on backpacking stoves and purchased one that appears to be identical to this one at REI called the Yellowstone. Many hard core backpackers are obsessed with shaving ounces and this one weights a few ounces more. However, they are sacrificing ease of use and stability. When on a Boy Scout campout, the last thing you want is for a pot to fall off a "pocket rocket" because the stove is unstable. This stove is pretty foolproof and pretty stable. I would recommend it for scout aged campers and for any situation where saving a couple of ounces or use of liquid fuel is not required.

Light weight, good heat adjustment, quick lighting......great little stove for backpacking. Buying the larger fuel cannister is the way to go with this stove as it gives more base weight. This really helped with larger cooking pots. Good buy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice idea for backpacking, January 20, 2007
This review is from: Foldable Pocket Cooker (Misc.)
I recieved this for Christmas and just tried it out for the first time.
I like the way it folds up and fits into its canvas bag for easy storage in the backpack. It takes up about as much room as a paperback book.
It holds the fire in one place which is nice and I can see using it for heat with a leanto. If its dry out you'll never run out of fuel though it has to be small and you will have to keep feeding it because of the small size of the burn area but it heats well and cooked very well. All wood and leaves and sweetgum balls burnt to ash and it cooled quickly when done.

The only problem I had with it was the paint blistering and poping off in places. I guess I will have to get it really hot then repaint it with some good engine paint to keep it from rusting.. It took me a couple of minutes to figure how to fold it back up as I didn't study it before opening it but the hinged side folds in first then the other side and back in its case and off you go... I got this stove to serve as a backup for my car camping expeditions and it has worked well for that. It works as advertised, actually quite well for what it is.

      * What is it? This is a rather small contraption make of light pressed steel cleverly held together by hings pins and cotter pins such that it can be folded into a 1" tall pancake when not in use. When deployed, it provides a secure and relatively wind-proof shelter in which to make a fire with whatever dry fuel is at hand. (twigs, paper, etc). The combustion chamber is quite small, so don't get the idea that you'll be fitting logs or large sticks in there. There is a small door that can be held up by an attached swiveling leg that allows you to feed in additional fuel once it gets going. The bottom of the unit is perforated, allowing air to be drawn up to aid in combustion, and the stove itself is held slightly off the ground by legs integral to the frame. The structure effectively channels the heat up... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars pocket stove, April 13, 2007
This review is from: Foldable Pocket Cooker (Misc.)
Wow, when I ordered this item and recieved it in the mail, I was in total shock. I opened a medium size shipping box but the size was alot smaller than I thought it would be. You could actually put this in your pocket. I live up in Canada where the weather goes from 1 extreme to another & this would and should become a manadtory survival tool. I'd highly recommend this even to just go camping with. Get your pocket stove and put your mind at ease about worrying about making a campfire... The inventor is a BRAIN!
